One of the things I enjoy about this forum is the access to articles/opinion pieces that appear on sites I don't normally follow. But, isn't it proper
procedure to give both the author and the site/journal, not just the author? Or is that just an academic paper requirement? After all, what is the value of
an opinion or news story if it appears on a non-authoritative site? Time is authoritative (if "the left-leaning news media), Bloomberg is authoritative
(if "the right leaning economic media"). What about the rest?

Yes, but then we "can consider the source" for all the articles that get printed daily. Just like what's-his-name and who's-it before him.

i would agree. nothing is worse than being in an "echo chamber" where everyone agrees and nods "yes" to the same view points. i never
understood the acusation that a politician has "flip floped" because it is a sign of growth that people change over time as they get new information.
i like hearing views that are opposed to mine as often they make me re-consider where i stand and i think i am the better for it. one of the things i like
about the andrew sullivan blog is that it links to different views on a subject (andrew sullivan himself is an example of a person with changing views as he
went from pro-bush to very anti-bush).
links are especially good and appreciated. |

One of the most annoying things recent right-wing posters here did was was publish pieces with the headline - "British press says............"
without giving the link.
On numerous occasions I found they were not actually newspaper articles at all, but rather blog entries by extremist, unrepresentative conservatives. Clearly identifying sources will prevent that happening also. |
